Author Notes: My first fic with this kind of theme. I need to search for the information of Bakufu era for this ^^

The fic, especially this part, is inspired by Ryuhei Matsuda movie, titled 'Gohatto/Taboo', ( you can check for the trailer of this movie HERE ) and also got another inspiration from a manga titled 'Flash of Wind/Kaze Hikaru' by Taeko Watanabe. Actually, i take the inspiration for the troops from Shinsengumi, but as i stated before, this is purely a fiction, and doesn't have any actual relations with the Shinsengumi itself. Also, this fic will be divided into three chapter, each chapter has their own story but still have a relation to the first chapter.

Please note too that i purposely write the name of Inoran in a different way in every chapter (in this chapter, I used his real name, Inoue Kiyonobu). Okay, just enjoy this chapter and if you have any question, feel free to comment me.

CHAPTER 1: THE PAST

PART TWO

Inoue lost his father and his brothers in the fire. He is very shocked with that and refuse to talk to someone else. Meanwhile Jun is being detained in their prison. It's just a few days more before he must face his own death since they decided to do the death penalty on him.

Inoue take his sword and going for a walk. He needs time to refresh himself since he couldn't think clearly anymore. Why Jun killed his family? Is that the special mission that he said before? Jun didn't even say anything again after that and that made him feels as if Jun already destroy his trust on him.

As he passed by the remnants of his house, he heard someone talk.

"This is really bad. They said they're gonna beheaded someone from the opposition party for what he have done here."

"Yeah, I heard that too. They didn't know that they're gonna killed the wrong guy."

Inoue turns his head as he see two men talks near him.

"That's true. The troops is already on a messed. The one who did this actually is their leader, Sakamoto."

Inoue almost dropped his sword. What? Sakamoto-san, their leader did all of this?

"Someone said he's really good at kendo, he's suitable for a leader but once his moods drop, he could do something really bad without thinking of the consequences."

"Yeah. He burnt down the Inoue house and the other simply because they refuse to rent him some money and made him in a bad mood. Can you believe that?"

"What a terrible leader."

Inoue quickly approaching them. "Do you really have a proof for what you are saying?"

The men looks a little bit surprised but then answers, "I see it with my own eyes. He's the one that started the fire. And not only me, people here also saw it." He said that then talking to a few people who are also near them.

"Yes, I saw it! He burned it for a stupid reason!" A shop seller said, the storeclerk also added, "we couldn't stop it because he was mad, he said he will kill us if we dare to stopped it."

Inoue just stay silence for a while before saying his thanks and leaving them.

"Who is he?"

"The eldest son of the Inoues."

"Their son? Wow, at first I thought he's a girl. He's a kind of pretty."

"Yeah, but he's a member of the troops, he already kill people more than you can imagine." The man added while watching Inoue walks away.

Midnight time. Inoue opens his eyes. Seems like all of his friend already sleep. He carefully sneaks away from the room without making any noise so everyone wouldn't wake up.

He walks very slowly outside the room, across the hall and to the prison area.

The weather is so cold tonight, maybe snow will come in a few days. He steps very slowly and carefully because the guards is also sleeping.

Once inside the cell area, he hurriedly comes to Jun's place. Jun is still awake, he just sit and stares at the small narrow window on top of him.

"Jun!" Inoue calls him with a low voice, but that is enough to make Jun a little bit surprised. He approach the cell door where Inoue wait for him.

"Why did you come here?" Jun asked.

"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I should've trust you more than anyone." Inoue reach out his hand through the bars. Jun quickly hold his hand. Jun's hand feels as cold as ice, which making Inoue entwined their fingers.

"It's okay. Now you know that I'm not guilty, right?"

Inoue nods. "I know who did that to my family." He said that with full of confidence. Now that he knows who's the killer, he already thinking of getting revenge. "I'll get you out of here. I don't want to see you suffer like this."

"No, it's alright." Jun replies and making Inoue feels confused.

"Why?"

"Don't worry about me. I have another plan." Jun grins.

"But...."

"Do you believe in me?"

Inoue nods.

"Then, trust me. I still have my secret weapon." Jun take the chance to kiss the back of Inoue's hand and his fingers. "I told you we're gonna be together, right?"

Inoue finally smiles and nods.

Suddenly, there's a noise outside of the prison area. Seems like someone is already awake.

"I have to leave." Inoue released their entwined hand.

"Be careful." Jun said before Inoue turns his back and leave him. He steps very carefully, close to the wall near the exit door. Slowly, he popped out his head to watch the situation outside. The guard is awake and take a look around him. When he see nothing unusual, he comes back to his post, take a seat and taking a nap with sword on his hand.

This is the only chance for Inoue to get out, so he steps very carefully, past the guard to comeback to his room. He accidentally hit a wooden board on the way and that makes the guard awake.

"Who is it?" He grabs his sword and a few seconds later notice Inoue is standing not too far from him. "Inoue-san! What are you doing here?"

"Oh, I can't sleep so I decided to take a walk for a while." Inoue answer calmly. He's good at hiding his feeling in front of someone else, so he doesn't look panic at all.

"In this cold weather?" The guard stares at Inoue who still used his sleep-wear.

"Yeah, but I'm coming back to my room now," Inoue gives him a sweet smile and the guard doesn't ask anything further, so he goes back to his room. All of his friends are still sleeping. Inoue quietly slipped into his futon. He lays and hold his own hand. He can still feel the touch of Jun's lips on his hand and making him really want to be in Jun's arms once again. He let out a smile when he remember that.

But that smile fades as he feels someone touch his shoulder.

"Are you getting cold now, Inoue-chan?" The man whispers in his ear. "Do you want me to warm you?"

Inoue doesn't respond anything.

"Don't be so tense like that. Everyone knows you can satisfy your senpai....." The man moves his hand, trying to hug him. Inoue slips his hand under his pillow and grab a knife that he kept there. He turns around quickly and put the knife on the man's neck.

"Do you really want to lose your head?" Inoue said with a cold tone.

The man laugh, "you're so fierce. Come on..." He stops talking when he feels a slight cut on his neck.

"I'm really serious now, Yashiro-san."

The man stares at Inoue's sharp eyes. He knows exactly that Inoue won't have a doubt to kill him right now. He could see it in his eyes.

"Alright. Forget it." Yashiro finally back away while holding his neck and moves to the other side of the room while Inoue lay back on his futon with a sigh.

"That man is really persistent." One of Inoue's friend, Sugihara, stated. "Even though Yashiro and the other forced him, he still won't say anything."

"The man in the prison?" Another man named Yamada replies.

"Yes," Sugihara put the onigiri to his mouth. "He's really persistent."

"Of course, you won't get anything from him. He will keep everything 'till death." Inoue replies calmly. He knows exactly that once Jun is on his secret mission, he won't tell it to anyone, not even to him.

"Inoue!" Yamanashi, one of the vice captain, suddenly come and approach him.

"Yes sir!" Inoue quickly stand up.

"Prepare yourself. You'll be performing the execution for the prisoner tomorrow. The place will be on the court at 10."

"Yes sir!" Inoue nods. As soon as Yamanashi leave, Sugihara commented, "as expected, they choose one of the best samurai to perform the execution."

"That would be a nice chance to revenge for your family, right, Inoue-san?" Yamada said to Inoue.

"I think so." Inoue eat his lunch as if nothing happens, but deep inside he still thinking about what's gonna happen tomorrow. Jun said that he already got a plan, but what if his plan failed and he really have to killed Jun instead of saving him? He really doesn't know about Jun's plan. Somehow he started to have a doubt.

He knows that a samurai like him shouldn't let his emotion taking over himself, but it's very hard to not thinking about it. Jun is the only person that he loves right now.

Inoue stares at the falling snow. Today is the day when he have to kill Jun. There are a few plan that he had on his mind now to save Jun from this execution. But he's afraid that he will ruined Jun's plan.

Time is ticking. Inoue wear his dark blue kimono with a mixed feeling. The more he thinking about it, the more he don't want to lose Jun. This must be the hardest execution he ever had. He take his favorite sword, named Shirotsumekusa, the one that he always use for a war and execution. This uchigatana (the sword that used in Bakufu era) has a mark of four-leaf clover and the kanji word for 'Inoue no shirotsumekusa' near its handle. Usually his confidence will boost up if he used this sword, but not right now. Nothing could calm him except Jun's safety.

Inoue sigh and get ready to the court which is now covered by the white snow. He walks slowly, watching as the guards take Jun from the prisoner area and force him to kneel on the ground.

Actually he doesn't want to stare at Jun, but he have to. Jun looks thinner. As he walks closer, he noticed the bruises on Jun's face. They must be beating him so bad to make him talk.

The captain, vice captains and those in the upper rank already arrived. The execution will start soon.

Inoue take a deep breath as he is now face to face with Jun who is still kneeling down in front of him with a tied hands.

"Do it. Kill me." Jun said with a very low voice but Inoue could hear it. His eyes meet up with Jun's eyes. Despite the fact that his life must ended in his secret lover's hand, seems like Jun is not afraid. It's really different than anyone he ever killed before.

Inoue take off his sword. But Jun's eyes is still like before. There's no sign of fear at all. Why? Does he really want to die this bad?

"I'm sorry!" Inoue hold his sword with both hands and swing it upside before doing his slash. It all happened so fast and he feels something hurt in his hand.

The sword falls to the ground. A drops of blood stained the white ground.

"Guard!" Someone starts to yell. Inoue still hasn't recognized what happened in front of him until Jun stand up. The rope which is used to tied his hand already torn off. With a grin, he show him something in his hand. It's the knife that he gave him before.

"We're being attack, sir!" The guards are on panic because suddenly a group of men arrives and killing the main house guards.

"Onose!" Someone throw Jun his uchigatana and Jun catch it. Inoue managed to grab his sword just in time when Jun take off his sword. Their sword clash in front of them.

"I'm sorry for your hand," Jun grins.

Inoue takes a second to examine his hand. His right hand is bleeding from a small cut wound from the back of his hand to his wrist.

"It's okay," Inoue reply. So this is Jun's plan. To bring his team inside and attack their headquarter on his execution day. Then, to disguise their relationship, they must fight each other.

Inoue swing his sword, Jun hold the attack with his own sword.

"You know the perpetrator, right?" Jun said.

"Yeah, thanks to you now I can use my plan b," Inoue still trying to attack Jun.

The court is now turns into the field of war. People fighting and killing. Blood spatters in the white snow. The vice captains have a hard time to fight the attackers so they leave the captain un-guard.

Sakamoto watches everything from where he sit. He really disappointed that the execution turns out to be like this. He really need someone to cover up what he did back then but everything already messed up like this. And he only got one person to blame. The one who failed to do the execution. Sakamoto take off his long sword. He quickly approaching Inoue and Jun who are still on the fight.

"It's all your fault! I don't need a useless person like you!" Sakamoto doing his slash move.

"Ino!" The only thing that Inoue heard is Jun's shouting his name before everything went dark for a while. He's being embraced by someone. Someone that he knows so well. Someone that can makes him smile. Someone who is so precious more than he treasure his own life. And this warm embrace is something that he's been longing all this time. But not in here, not this time.

"Jun!" For the first time, Inoue felt that Jun's hand is trembling. Jun is still embracing Inoue but he can't hide the pain from his severe open wound in his back. Another slash from Sakamoto but Jun won't let Inoue go. He tighten his embrace.

"So you're a traitor, huh, Inoue? You cooperate with this thugs." Sakamoto stated. He goes on and on badmouthing Inoue's family and fails to notice that Jun is still holding his sword and with a quick move fighting back despite his wound on his back.

Inoue just stand there for a while. It's against the rules to rebel and attack his own captain. But the heck with those rules now! He will do his revenge!

Inoue take his sword and quickly approaching Jun who is still fighting against Sakamoto.

"Inoue!" Yamanashi draw his sword in front of Inoue. "Why you betray us?"

"I have my own reason, vice captain Yamanashi." He begin his attack on Yamanashi, but then his concentration is divided between his battle and his worried about Jun's condition.

Despite his spirit of fighting, Jun is still bleeding. He even have to stop the fighting for a while.

Inoue managed to push back Yamanashi for a while so he can check Jun's condition.

"Jun, you need to withdraw yourself. We have to take care of your wounds first," Inoue put Jun's hand around his shoulder and helps him to walk. In the middle of the court, Jun's friends who knows their condition willing to help Jun to treat his wounds.

Suddenly, his friend looks surprised, "watch out!" He shouts and in just a second, Jun pushes Inoue away, making Inoue lose his balance and falls to the ground.

He turns around just to see the moment where he wish it's all just a nightmare. Jun falls to the ground. Blood coming from his mouth. Someone pull out his sword from Jun's body after stabbing him.

"Jun!" Inoue screams and quickly holding Jun's body. He doesn't care with anything anymore except Jun. "Jun, please, don't die now!"

Jun moves his hand very slowly. "You..... Are.... Safe...."

"Jun, don't leave me! Please, don't leave me alone!" Tears started to formed in Inoue's eyes.

With his remaining strength, Jun moves his hand to caressed the face of his lover, maybe for the last time. "I'm.... Sorry...."

"You don't have to say sorry." Inoue holds Jun's hand, "hang in there, I'm gonna search for a help."

"Ino...... Do... What you need to..."

"Jun......."

"I'll be... Waiting.. For you..." Jun managed to grins, despite the extreme pain that he felt right now.

"I'll be taking care of Onose-san," one of his friend said.

"Go!" Jun insists. Having no other options, Inoue finally obeying Jun's words. He leaves Jun to his friend and draw his sword once again.

Jun is right. He must finish his revenge. Not only for his family but for Jun too.  

With a quick steps, he starts to attack Sakamoto. He must admit that Sakamoto is a skillful samurai, therefore he repeatedly being pushed back by Sakamoto, but he doesn't want to give up.

Sakamoto managed to hit Inoue's face with the handle of his sword, making a trail of blood slips through Inoue's mouth.

"I can forgive you if you do something for me," Sakamoto gives his wicked smile. Inoue can guess what he's trying to say. He will forgive Inoue if Inoue wants to sleep with him.

"I refuse," of course, after seeing what happened with Jun, he won't forgive the man in front of him.

"Why?" Sakamoto attack him but Inoue can endure his attack and fight back.

"Because I have to kill you," Inoue said without any hesitation. He swing his sword very fast to the right side of Sakamoto and almost hitting him,  making Sakamoto being cornered by him.

Inoue even managed to make Sakamoto losing his grip to his sword. The sword falls to the ground.

"Captain!" Yamanashi and Yashiro managed to get through.

"Inoue! Why did you do this?" Yashiro asked.

Sakamoto used that moment to grab his sword, as he see Inoue is looking away for a second, and swing his sword but Inoue is faster than him. He doesn't have any hesitation to beheaded his own captain.

"No! Captain!"

Blood spatters to Inoue's kimono and his face. But there's something that he can't understand. Even though this is what he wanted, he's not feeling relieved. Instead, he feels empty. He already achieved his purpose, but there's something missing inside of him.

Inoue grabs Sakamoto's head and walks to the main court.

"Look! Sakamoto is dead! We win!" Someone starts to yell.

Inoue put Sakamoto's head on the ground, his eyes looks empty and he's more expressionless than before.

"Officers are coming!" With that announcement, people are quickly leaving the place.

"Inoue-kun, let's go!" Sugihara comes to take Inoue but Inoue refused to leave.

Snow is still falling, almost burying several bodies on the ground. The court now is just like a battlefield. Not only bodies, but heads and several body parts scattered there.

Inoue doesn't count how many of his fellow troops who has been killed there. He only care for one person. He noticed that Jun's friend who take care of him was killed too. Inoue fall on his knees beside Jun's body.

"I already done what you told me to," Inoue said with a trembling voice, tears flow from his eyes. "I already take my revenge, so you must wake up now, Jun," Inoue shakes Jun's body. But Jun's body already turns cold, his eyes closed and there's no sign of life from him.  

"It's not fair. I already fulfilled my own mission. Don't leave me like this, Jun." Inoue holds Jun's body. "You told me that we'll be together."

"Inoue-kun!" Sugihara takes Inoue's hand. "He's already dead. Come on, let's go."

Inoue pushes away Sugihara's hand. He stay quiet for a while before finally puts down Jun's body and grab his sword. "I no longer have any reason to live." He glance at Sugihara for a while and gives him a bitter smile. "Take care of yourself, Sugihara-kun. Thanks for everything." He hold his Shirotsumekusa with both hands. The sharp edge of the sword points directly to his body.

"Wait! Don't do that!"

Along with Sugihara's yell, Inoue stabs himself with his sword. He pushes the sword deeper on his stomach. Blood flows from his mouth.

"Inoue!" Yashiro comes and wanting to approach Inoue but Sugihara kept him away.

"Sugihara! Why you don't stopped him?!"

Sugihara shakes his head. "This is what he already chose. To do the seppuku."

Slowly Inoue pull out his sword. He's bleeding so bad, he spills out more blood from his mouth and his body falls directly to the ground. With the remaining strength that he got, he moves his body to be close to Jun. His hand reach out to Jun's hand and entwined their fingers. There's a little miracle happened when he can feels that Jun's fingers move and holding his hand tightly. Inoue let out a smile and mumbles, "We'll be together..... We'll meet again someday, Jun...." then closing his eyes.

Even the wind sounds like it's sighing

The world is being corroded and broken right in front of me

Notes: Seppuku is a way of samurai to do the suicide by slicing the abdomen.
